Text Box: "Model Builders...start your engines!" Hey, Modeler!! It’s time to rev up your modeling skills and get some well-deserved recognition. 'Best of the West' attendees and judges are eager to see your work. Below are the contest entry categories. Build to a category that will put the award in your hands. Contest Information   The Las Vegas Chapter of the International Plastic Modelers Society is holding this event. You do NOT have to be a member to enter the contest, but we encourage you to join this fine organization. This contest is primarily for PLASTIC or similar materials, but we have provided for a non-plastic category for those who wish to enter other materials, and do not wish to compete in the regular categories. Figures MAY be non-plastic. Due to space limitations, please, no large R/C powered models.   There are no restrictions on how you construct your model except for “Out of the Box” categories. This event will utilize the IPMS/USA rules defining Out of the Box entries: Only kit provided parts may be used, except alternative decals and simple tape for seatbelts, without hardware. Filling seams or gaps, removing rivets, thinning parts, or adding small items as shown on the box art (such as wires or antennas) is allowed, but additional parts or modifications are not. To be on the safe side, bring a set of the kit instructions should the judges have any questions. Only FIRST Place will be awarded in the “Out of the box” categories.   Our contest is judged first, and primarily on good construction and basic modeling techniques. Historical accuracy such as markings and colors will also be considered. There will be a team of judges assigned to each category, and all judges decisions are FINAL. First, second and third place awards will be given in each category, except as noted. You may enter as many models you wish in a category, but no one individual may win more than two awards in a category (“No sweeps”). Proxy entries are accepted.   SPECIAL AWARDS: Only one award will be given in each Special Award Category. The judges will also determine a “Best of Show” award to be given to the best overall model at the competition.   ADDITIONAL TIPS AND SUGGESTIONS: While everyone is welcome to our shows, please do not let children into the contest area without an adult. Models are not to be touched by anyone except the owners or head judge (if any need to be moved).   Know your own model! To make registration easy, be prepared to describe the scale, manufacturer of the kit, and description of what you built, so it may be placed in the proper category. So others may learn from your work (and it helps the judges, too), we encourage notes or descriptions of your effort next to the model. This is especially important if you did any special modifications or color scheme the judges may question.   You can make your registration a lot easier and quicker by filling out the form before coming to the show. Please note that model registration closes at 1PM on contest day. Once judging begins, no further entries can be accepted! The contest entry area will be CLOSED to all except the judges.
